The rock band Heart announced Tuesday (July 2, 2024) that it was postponing its upcoming U.S. tour due to vocalist Ann Wilson’s recent cancer diagnosis.
Ann Wilson issued a statement on social media Tuesday to address the situation. She stated she had recently “underwent an operation to remove something that, as it turns out, was cancerous.” Wilson called the procedure “successful” and that she is “feeling great, but my doctors are now advising me to undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy.”
Wilson added, “And so my doctors are instructing me to take the rest of the year away from the stage in order to fully recover. To the ticket buyers, I really do wish we could do these gigs. Please know that I absolutely plan to be back on stage in 2025. My team is getting those details sorted and we’ll let you know the plan as soon as we can. Thank you all for the support. This is merely a pause. I’ve much more to sing.”
Heart was scheduled to perform at the Toyota Center in Houston on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Ticketholders are encouraged to hold their tickets until new tourdates are announced.
In late May, Heart canceled its European tour that was scheduled for June and July. The band issued a statement, at that time, that stated Wilson would undergo a “time-sensitive but routine medical procedure for which the minimum recovery time is six weeks.”
Heart had already completed the first leg of the “Royal Flush” tour earlier this year. Upon returning from Europe, the band was supposed to take part in several shows with Journey and Def Leppard in August before commencing the second leg of its tour through the end of summer and into the fall.
